Bec Judd speaks out about Brighton crime wave

Bec Judd has again chimed in on the amount of crime near her home in Melbourne’s cashed-up Brighton amid a new warning to locals.

The former WAG and business owner made the comments to her 767,000 Instagram followers on Thursday after new road signs warned residents to lock down their home security.

“Nothing to see in Briiiiiiighton (sic). Just a lazy 578 per cent increase in aggravated burglaries (ie. home invasions),” Judd wrote.

The mother of four, who owns a $7.3m mansion in the area with former AFL star husband Chris, made waves last year after saying she felt “unsafe” after a spike in “rapes, bashings and home invasions”.

Judd took to Instagram at the time to accuse the Victorian state government of allowing crime to get out of hand in the Bayside area.

“So sick of the rapes, bashings and home invasions at the hands of gangs in Bayside,’’ she wrote in an Instagram story.

“The state government don’t seem to care. We feel unsafe.”

However, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews retorted at the time by saying he’s “not interested in having an argument with Ms Judd” after she claimed the state government didn’t care about Brighton residents’ safety concerns.

“I’m also obliged to point out, though, I think there are more than 70 additional police in the Bayside area,” Mr Andrews said.

Recent data from Victoria’s Crime Statistics Agency revealed Bayside’s total number of criminal incidents was 12.9 per cent higher in 2022 compared with 2021.

Now, residents in the beachside enclave were warned to lock down their home security after the wave of crime in the area.

Signs along Beach Rd in Brighton are telling locals to “be mindful” of their home security.

The beachside posts with warnings to “lock your house and car” come after Brighton witnessed 151 more criminal incidents in 2022 compared with 2021.

Local MP James Newbury told NCA NewsWire the issue represented a “huge spike” of criminal activity in the area, located in Melbourne’s Bayside.

“There has been a 578 per cent increase in aggravated burglaries in Brighton over the last 10 years – nine to 52 each year (since 2013),” he said.
