Friends of “much loved daughter” Emily Thompson, who was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Queensland, have started raising money to help her grieving family.

Police allege Emily Nicole Thompson, 18, was murdered by her 19-year-old ex-partner Aaron Daniel Mitchelson Huckel on October 22, 2022.

Miss Thompson allegedly met Mr Huckel in a car park off Bells Pocket Rd at Strathpine, in Brisbane’s north, about 4.30pm on Saturday.

Her body was later found in bushland near a service station in Nambour, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, on Sunday morning.

The teen’s family contacted police after she did not return home.

Mr Huckel, from Kallangur in Moreton Bay, was arrested at a service station about a kilometre away from where Miss Thompson was located.

He was charged with one count each of murder and misconduct with a corpse.

Miss Thompson was days away from completing her year 12 exams before her life was “tragically cut short”, according to a GoFundMe page set up by family friend Melissa Hopper.

Ms Hopper intends to raise $10,000 for Miss Thompson’s family to assist with any financial support they need.

“Nothing will ever compensate her family for their loss,” she wrote.

“This fundraiser is to provide financial support for the grieving family during the challenging time ahead.”

Ms Hopper said the 18-year-old was a “much loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, niece and friend”.

“Emily was a schoolgirl about to complete year 12 exams and had her whole life ahead of her,” she wrote.

“She had bought a beautiful dress, ready to attend her formal in a vintage car driven by her beloved Pa.

“Her friend group were preparing to celebrate the end of school and the start of their adult lives.

“Emily was a smart, kind-hearted and loving girl.

“It was never about Emily, it was always about her family and friends.

“Her family is devastated and in shock, trying to comprehend how their lives will be without their Emily.”

Police will allege the pair had recently ended their “intimate” relationship.

Mr Huckel, who remains in custody, will return to court on October 31 at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court.

The fundraiser has raised nearly $3,000.
