Gunna wowed fans on Thursday (September 28) by showing them a whole new style: he went full Afrobeats.

The Atlanta rapper brought Afrobeats singer Victor Thompson onstage at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, where the two dueted on Thompson’s track “This Year (Blessing).” The original track is a duet with singer Ehis D, but for this live performance Gunna stepped into the role.

Gunna’s fans were shocked by the performance, and many began to assume that he would be featured on an official “This Year (Blessing)” remix.

So far, no confirmation of that has been forthcoming, but that hasn’t stopped fans from labelling the live performance as a remix on YouTube and Soundcloud.

Gunna had notable shows on both coasts last month. He performed at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on September 9.

At the gig, Gunna showed love to his former codefendant Young Thug by flashing a message that read “Free Jeffrey” across the stage.

Both artists have worked closely together throughout their careers, but their relationship allegedly took a hit when Gunna pleaded out of the high-profile legal matter they’ve both been involved in since last year. As of now, Young Thug remains behind bars.

Gunna has been batting off snitching claims against him ever since his legal exit from the ongoing YSL RICO ordeal. In June, he assured Young Thug that he didn’t rat on him on his new album, A Gift & a Curse.

The Southern rapper dropped his latest project in mid-June on Thug’s Young Stoner Life imprint, serving as his first full-length drop since being released from jail in December after accepting a plea deal in his label’s case.

Various songs on the new album find Gunna addressing the “snitch” allegations head-on. On the track, “I Was Just Thinking,” he opens up about crying over Young Thug’s situation and the “lies” people are saying about him.
