Ryan Murphy Plans To Diversify His Directing Team

Ryan Murphy, who is the co-creator of Glee, American Horror Story and Scream Queens, is planning to make his directing team more diverse by the end of this year.

Television directing jobs in the United States of America are only filled by 16 to 18 percent of minorities. Former power publicist, Nancy Ryder, said, “People in power, you have a position and responsibility to change the industry”. Murphy agreed with this and thought he could personally do better than he already was.

Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter, “The industry has always been about, you come to us. There’s not a lot of effort and inclusion, and I’m saying, ‘No, we’re going to go to you.’”

The director and producer has now vowed to have 50 percent of directing positions on his shows filled by women, LGBTQ+ people or people of colour by the end of this year. Murphy wants to tackle the lack of opportunity in Hollywood through other measures such as outreach at colleges and universities, through mentoring, internships and shadowing.
